Put This in Your Mouth: A Tribue to Oakland’s Hottest Foodie

Breakfast at Brown Sugar Cafe in Oakland

Poached eggs and grits, at Brown Sugar Cafe

You may not know Oakland food legend Tanya Holland personally, but if you’re a brunch-o-phile like many of as at GoBanter, you probably know her lip-smacking cornmeal waffles with cider syrup. Holland is the force behind one of Oakland’s top breakfast joints, Brown Sugar Kitchen, and the hip, down-home  B-Side BBQ on the Oakland/Emeryville border. Apparently Oakland mayor Jean Quan is a fan, because she declared June 5, 2012 Tanya Holland Day. In honor, we sampled the poached eggs and grits with a buttermilk biscuit on the side. Amaaaazing! We suggest you try them too. Or gobble up a pulled pork sandwich at B Side, and give silent thanks to Tanya Holland.
